The Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra is pleased to announce that the 2013 Charles F. Davis Emerging Artist Competition will be held April 14, at 1:30 p.m. in the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Charlevoix. In the spring of 2007 the GLCO launched the competition and annually since then young musicians have the opportunity to compete for the a chance to perform with the orchestra, or in other GLCO sponsored concerts. The yearly competition is open to any student, ages 14 through 19, residing in Michigan north of the 45th parallel. In addition, the prize also includes a monetary award for first and second place.
For the first time, singers have been invited to join the competition with the instrumentalists. Four young artists will perform: Ella Ruthig will be playing the 3rd movement of Mozart's Flute Concerto No. 1 in G Major; Dana Reynolds, soprano, will be singing "Voi che sepate" from Mozart's opera, "The Marriage of Figaro;" Chandler Cummings, soprano, will be singing "A Simple Sailor Lowly Born" from HMS Pinafore by Gilbert and Sullivan; and Edwin Walda will be performing the 3rd movement of Haydn's Piano Concerto in D Major, No. 11.
The competition is open to the public and free of charge.
