10/16/2013 12:01:00 AM Lecture series opens with 'Bringing New Ideas to Life in a Small Town' Oct. 29
Coolhouse Labs is kicking off its "Small Towns, Big Ideas" lecture series on Tuesday, October 29 with the topic of "Bringing New Ideas to Life in a Small Town."
Rick Harlow of the Grand Rapid's-based design firm, Visual Hero, will present. During Coolhouse Lab's Creators Fair in late August, Harlow led participants through a "Human-Centered Design" ideation workshop. The goal of the workshop was to explore the myth: "Why can't new ideas come to life in a small town?"
Harlow and his team challenged participants to explore the advantages and disadvantages of trying to make big ideas come to life in a small town. They then dove into the feedback that was gathered, and Harlow is returning to discuss some thoughts they have for making big ideas come to life in small towns.
This lecture series will be part of the non-profit arm of Coolhouse Labs, the Harbor Creators Collective.
"The Harbor Creators Collective will have three main components - Education, Events, Co-working - to support our mission of fostering entrepreneurial and tech talent in the Harbor Springs Area," said Coolhouse founder and director, Jordan Breighner.
"One of our big goals with the Harbor Creators Collective is to provide opportunities for creative friction, and we think discussions like this provide a great opportunity for people to come together (have a beverage) and share ideas on how we can boost the entrepreneurial community in Harbor Springs."
The Bringing New Ideas to Life in a Small Town lecture will take place on October 29 from 6-7 p.m. at Coolhouse Labs, 277 East Main Street.
