McLaren Northern Michigan will host its Autumn Health Event on Tuesday, November 5, 2013. The event will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the John and Marnie Demmer Wellness Pavilion and Dialysis Center, 820 Arlington Avenue, Petoskey. Exhibits and demonstrations include chair massages, healthy eating and menu choices, wellness services, weight loss, bariatric surgery, heart and vascular services, diabetes management, and home health care options.
Visitors will have the opportunity to converse one-on-one with clinicians. Expert presenters include Randal S. Baker, MD, FACS, who will discuss medical weight management and bariatric surgery and Laurie A. Kane, MD, speaking about diabetes.
"This is a great opportunity for area residents to come together for a wide range of topics related to health and wellness," says Tanya A. Janes, BS, CHES, McLaren Northern Michigan Health and Wellness Education Specialist. "Knowledge is the key component to taking charge of one's health." In addition to event activities, attendees will have the opportunity to tour the Demmer Wellness Pavilion. "Often, area residents don't realize all that we have to offer until they visit our facility," Janes adds. Throughout the autumn and winter season, for example, aquatic therapy, fitness programs, support groups, and exercise classes are just a few of the programs open to the public.
Health screenings will also be available the evening of November 5th for $10. Screenings include a finger poke for total cholesterol and glucose levels, blood pressure, pulse, height, weight, body mass index (BMI), and a brief educational consult. Availability is limited for screenings, and registration is required by calling (800) 248-6777.
The Autumn Health Event is free of charge and no registration is required to attend. For more information about this and other health-related events, visit northernhealth.org or call (800) 248-6777.
