Graduate News

Purdue University has announced their dean's list for the spring 2013 semester. Included on the list is Harbor Springs resident Maddie Hansen. She us a 2001 graduate of Harbor Springs High School.

Gathering information for military care packages

First Presbyterian Church Harbor Springs will be preparing "mailbag" / care packages for younger military service men and women on Sunday, October 13. We need your help finding names and current addresses of young people who graduated from local high school (Emmet County) within the last 4 years, or former local high school grads who have graduated from college, are under 30-years old, and are actively serving in the military. If your student graduated from high school this past June, enlisted and is going to basic training this summer or fall, we want to include them also. Please contact the church with their name, and an address where they can receive a package (526-7332 or information@fpchs.org )

We understand from Jim Alton at the local Veteran's Affairs office that mail, any mail, is so appreciated. We invite community members to write letters and notes to be included in the packages to be sent. Letters, notes and small items for the care packages may be dropped off at the church by October 11.

Thank You Again and Again

Accolades to all of you in this community who have found ways in which to help the patrons of the Harbor Springs Community Food Pantry.

Some of you have spent many of your vacation hours this summer helping at the pantry on Monday mornings in the set-up and distribution of foods and even in re-stocking the shelves and cleaning the floors.

Other have helped by purchasing food during food drives like at the Harbor Springs IGA this past weekend for the pantry and/or donating funds for food. We have received fabulous peaches from a family's orchard in the city and vegetables from others' gardens.

The Harbor Springs Garden Club, responsible for making the city look absolutely stunning this summer, also produced a cookbook whose entire proceeds were donated to the food pantry.

Just today, Labor Day, Molly and Josh Baker, owners of The Outfitter Harbor Springs, held the Labor Day Run in Harbor Springs with all entry fees designated for the patrons of the food pantry.

Such acts of kindness and thoughtfulness deserve many, many thanks!
