North Central Michigan College is accepting applications for its new truck driving program which starts onJanuary 13, 2014. The high-skill, high wage program is offered at North Central's Gaylord center on Livingston Blvd. The 15-week driver training program begins with classroom, lab and focused independent study time, and ends with a 10-week paid internship of on-the-road experience. The internship will require travel, depending on the carrier employing the student.
According to recent estimates, three out of every four tons of freight in the United States are moved by truck, and demand for drivers is expected to remain consistently high. Starting salaries for someone in this field are in the range of $36,000 to $50,000 per year.
This certificate of development program introduces students to the theoretical as well as the practical skills necessary to obtain a commercial driving license, grade A, and includes very strong emphasis on safe driving practices in all phases of instruction.
The program begins on January 13, with program start times also scheduled for February 3, May 12, May 19 and September 2. Financial aid is available.
