One of the most watched "for sale" signs in Harbor Springs has changed to "sold." The iconic Juilleret's building, which operated as a restaurant for 112 years in downtown Harbor Springs until owners Jim and Marty Juilleret retired in 2007, has been sitting empty for the last six-plus years.
The property has been close to a sale several times, but did not officially change hands until a few weeks ago, when Harbor Springs residents Andrew and Martha Bowman purchased it.
Andrew is no stranger to owning a business space downtown, as his parents, Andy and Mary D. Bowman, were long-time owners of the Outfitter in Harbor Springs. Both Bowmans grew up in northern Michigan (Andrew in Harbor Springs and Martha in Traverse City) and now live here year-round with their two young daughters.
The couple offered the following statement for the Harbor Light about their purchase of the Jullieret's building:
"We've been looking for something in town over the past few years, and feel that this is a good opportunity. While we have no immediate plans for the property, we will be taking the next several months to consider the various options. It's exciting to have the opportunity to purchase a place that has meant so much to Harbor Springs over the years."
This newspaper will continue to follow the journey of this building's next phase as updated plans become available.
