2/19/2014 12:01:00 AM Harbor Springs Area Chili Cook-Off was tasty success last weekend
The Harbor Springs Area Chili Cook-Off, held Sunday at Stafford's Pier Restaurant, met with rave reviews and a near sell-out crowd with over 140 people attending.
With a record 19 entries (12 professionals and 7 amateurs), this year's judging was very tight. The professional category had entries from Birchwood Farm Golf & Country Club, Boyne Highlands Resort, Etta's Kitchen, Harbor Springs IGA, Johan's Bakery, Mary Ellen's Place, Mustang Wendy's, Stafford's Pier Restaurant, Stained Cup Coffee Shop, The New York Restaurant, Toski Sands Market and Wine Shop, and Turkey's Café.
In the amateur category, the seven entrants too had outstanding chilis. Those entrants included representatives from the Harbor Springs Farmer's Market, the Harbor Springs Fire Department, Brek-n-ridge Farm, Masonic Lodge, the Village of Hillside and the Fletchers.
The winners from the professional category won the inaugural Chili Bowl Trophy while the amateur winner walked away with a Chamber gift certificate ($100 cash value).
Winning the Professional Category was the Birchwood Farm Golf & Country Club. The Harbor Springs Fire Department with their "Fire House Chili" won the amateur category.
The HSACC extended thanks to everyone who attended and who contributed to the success of the 2014 chili cook-off, especially Sandy Duley for chairing this year's event and Mary Ellen Hughes, Bryan Burley, Frank Shumway and Gregg Garver for assisting at the cook off.
