3/14/2017 2:01:00 PM 'Bartlett Cup' named for long time Nub's Nob general manager's last season
The last race of the season at Nub's Nob was the perfect time to celebrate the last season that Jim Bartlett "JB", longtime general manager and president, will be at the helm of the ski area. Bartlett is retiring at the end of this season, but last Sunday, March 12, marked a new beginning bearing his name: The Bartlett Cub.
The race, a "Super G", was the final event in the annual Volkl/Marker/Dalbello Speed Series. The Bartlett Cup is a fitting way to honor Bartlett's commitment to Nub's Nob and the ski racing community of northern Michigan, especially as this year marks the 30th anniversary of the ski slope where the race takes place, Sno Pro.
"This premier ski run was built in 1987, during JB's first season as General Manager at Nub's. Sno Pro is named after former General Manager, Jim Dilworth, who passed away in 1987. The Bartlett Cup will live on the mantle in the Nub's Pub, and fastest female and male skier on the day will have their names engraved on the cup," said Ben Doornbos, who will take over for Bartlett as general manager at the end of this season.
Martha Bowman and Ben Tolzdorf were the winners of the first ever Bartlett Cup. Bowman posted a time of 39.52 and Tolzdorf had the fastest run of the day with a 37.27. Drew Bartlett, JB's son, had the second fastest run of the day with a 38.08. Full results for the Bartlett Cup and all Speed Series races can be found at www.nubsnob.com.
