Robert Hydon

Robert Kane Hydon of Hobe Sound, Florida and Harbor Springs died peacefully on September 3, 2013 at age 86. Bob is survived by his wife of 44 years, Frances Weir Bonbright and his sons Robert James Hydon II (Sarah) of Sudbury, MA and John Walton Winans Jr. of Carol Stream, IL. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Mackenzie Rose Hydon, William Pierce Winans and Avery Margaret Hydon.

Robert was born July 3, 1927 in Grosse Pointe, MI, the only son of Frank McMurry Hydon and Mary Baldwin Hydon. He attended Grosse Pointe High School. After graduation he served for two years in the US Army Signal Corps based at Ft. Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. Bob then attended the University of Michigan graduating in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering.

Bob was President of Hydon-Brand Company, electrical contractors in Detroit for over 20 years. He was also involved in the insurance and banking industries. He served as Chairman of the Republican Town Committee of Salisbury, CT for several years. He was a member of Trinity Church of Limerock, CT during his time in Connecticut serving in several volunteer positions.

Being an avid gardener and amateur architect, Bob helped design his home and gardens in Lakeville, CT as well as home additions and gardens in Callawassie, SC and Hobe Sound, FL. Bob also had a keen interest in the American Civil War and held a strong passion for genealogy. He was a member of the Skaneateles Historical Society , the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, and The Pilgrim John Howland Society. He also belonged to the Country Club of Detroit, the Grosse Pointe Club, the Bayview Yacht Club, the Yondotega Club, the Jupiter Island Club and the Engineering Society of Detroit.

Interment will take place in Lakeview Cemetery in Skaneateles, NY and a memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date in Harbor Springs, MI.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Skaneateles Historical Society, 28 Hannum St. Skaneateles, NY 13152.
