Walter C. Goodwin 74 of Petoskey passed away Nov. 5, 2013 at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital.
Walt was born June 2, 1939 in Flint, Mi. to Walter A. and Kathryn (Conlee) Goodwin. He grew up in Montrose, Mi. where he attended school and graduated from Montrose High School. He then attended Michigan State University and Chicago Technical College where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering. He had worked for Genesee County for 17 years as a civil engineer prior to moving to Petoskey where he was the director of the dept. of public works from 1981-2005.
On Jan. 7, 1989 he married Myriam Anderson and they made their home in Petoskey. Walt enjoyed the many times he went fishing with his family. He was a member of the Harbor Springs United Methodist Church.
Walter is survived by his wife Myriam, his 3 sons Tim and his wife Kim, Chris and his wife Beth, Jon Casteel and Jenny Bellmer, his 3 daughters Jennifer Wiebrecht and her husband Eric, Margaret Newman, Rayden Miller and grandchildren Tyler, Zack, A.J. and Shawnnah Goodwin, Maya Newman, and Laney Johnston Backus.
A memorial service was held on Sat. Nov. 9 at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey.
The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Harbor Springs United Methodist Church or the National Diabetes Association.
