William Krieg

William G. Krieg 74 of Harbor Springs passed away Feb. 25, 2014 at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital with family members at his bedside.

He was born Oct. 31, 1939 in Petoskey to the late L. Emerson and Ruth (Benjamin) Krieg. He grew up in Petoskey where he attended school and graduated from Petoskey High School. He attended Michigan Technological University and went on to graduate from Ferris State University.

On April 15, 1967 he married Jacqueline Smith at St. Francis Xavier Church. The couple made their home in Conway and Harbor Springs. Upon retirement they spent the winters in Lakeland, Florida enjoying the warmth and watching the Detroit Tigers in spring training.

William enjoyed playing cards, was an avid cribbage player and was very proud when his children and grandchildren learned to play cards at an early age. His family was his greatest joy and he loved attending their band, sporting, karate, or musical play events even if he had to travel some distance. He also took pleasure in spoiling them with ice cream for breakfast.

Bill was an active member of Holy Childhood of Jesus Church and the Ultreya Group. He was a former member of the Petoskey BPOE, Harbor Springs Kiwanis Club, traveling golf league, a Cub Scout master and 4H council member.

Bill taught in area high schools and also taught for 20 years in the Adult Education Program helping adults who came back to school in the evenings to attain their GED and diplomas. He also worked at Glen's Market where he became known by many customers.

Bill leaves behind his loving wife Jaci, son Chip (Sandy) Krieg, daughter Lizabeth (Douglas) Childs, sister Virginia Krieg, grandchildren Megan, Sarah, Jacob, Scott and Adam. Also surviving are his aunt Hilda Pridgeon and many cousins.

A Funeral Mass celebrating Bill's life will be held on Wed. June 18th at 11:00 AM at Holy Childhood Church. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Nehemiah Project, PO Box 1745 Petoskey, Mi. 49770
