Thelma M. Fisher 87 of Harbor Springs passed away June 17, 2014 at her home. She was born April 19, 1927 in Petoskey to Jay and Louise (Taylor) Harrington. She grew up in Petoskey where she attended school, graduating from Petoskey High School in 1945. On Aug. 2, 1947 she married Lewis E. Fisher Sr. in Petoskey and the couple made their home in the Harbor Springs area. Thelma worked for Michigan Bell Telephone Co. beginning in 1963. She worked as an operator, dispatcher, assignment estimator and consultant until her retirement in 1979.
Thelma and Lewis volunteered for the Special Olympics Winter Games for many years. She was an avid hunter and also enjoyed knitting and sewing. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Thelma was preceeded in death by her husband Lewis in 2009. She is survived by her children James and Cloenda Fisher, Jean and Doug Schlappi, Kathleen and Tom Deane, Lewis and Toni Fisher Jr., 14 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. She was also preceeded in death by her brothers Jay and Fred Harrington.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Fri. June 20th at 11:00 AM at St Nicholas Catholic Church at Larks Lake. Fr. Joseph Graff will be the celebrant. Interment will take place in Holy Childhood Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6-8:00 PM at Schiller Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Nicholas Church or Special Olympics.
