The downtown Harbor Springs Farmers Market celebrated the return of outdoor market season on Saturday, June 15, with lots of folks coming to shop, visit, and reconnect with favorite old, and new, vendors. Each week, Market Master, Cyndi Kramer, updates Harbor Light Newspaper readers (see inside this issue) on all the happenings and good things to expect at market, which is held every Wednesday and Saturday from 9 a.m.-1p.m. just off the corner of Main and State streets. Wow, what an amazing first market we had! People were hanging around waiting for vendors to set up and we had more than one completely sell out before the end of the day. It was a rewarding and deliciously fun time at the downtown Harbor Springs Farmers Market.
There's more in store this week, with new vendors coming on board and veterans returning. Produce is coming in slowly and even if you are impatient for tomatoes, remember that OUR tomatoes are picked when they are "ready"...not just "ready to be shipped". Strawberries are making an appearance in some places and we may be seeing them here soon, too. Check out the new gluten free offerings and some very interesting new things for your cooking pleasure.
This Wednesday, June 19, marks the start of "Market Sprouts", our weekly program for the young market goers. Join Sara and Emma, along with Kelly, at the Sprouts tent next to the regular market tent for an hour of food and growing fun, making your food pledge tree and grabbing your token to take shopping for a fresh fruit or vegetable. Come down every Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. for a new activity, a new learning experience and a new taste treat!
We are still awaiting word on our SNAP approval but we are hoping it is up and running soon. Thanks for your patience as we get up to speed on this addition to our market menu.
