That little nip is in the air that tells us fall is on the way....and more importantly that sweet corn is just around the corner! We have seen the last of the cherries at the downtown Harbor Springs Farmers Market, but apples and peaches are going to take their place soon. Tomatoes are making more of an appearance and if you pair them with the green and purple lettuces we have you will have a salad that gets you lots of oohs and ahhhs! Stop and see the ladies at Wildwood Gardens for a bag of salad herbs and edible flowers and you will have the makings of a picture perfect start to a meal. If you haven't heard yet, we have FISH! Paul from the UP is bringing us freshly caught, flash frozen whitefish, salmon, trout and perch. They are from Lake Superior near Whitefish Point, we have more information on our Facebook page. We know that lots of you stop by the Michigan Mushroom Market tent and admire the many mushrooms there but we also know that lots of you are thinking "how would I cook a mushroom?" Never fear! On Wednesday this week Ashleigh will be setting up a cooking demo next to her tent to give you a demonstration and tasting to see just how amazing a mushroom can be. Check it out! If you loved the Plum Door tea that was available at one market last summer, come down on Saturday, August 17, ~ they will be making a return visit to share their fantastic product with us. And even though fall is far too close, there is still plenty of summer left for grilling and picnics; Gregory Farm and Cook Family Farm have beef, chicken and pork ready to go! We at the market would like to thank everyone who helps make the market a safe and easy place for our vendors by honoring our start and end times and recognizing that the street barricades are there to protect us. It is tempting to come early to get a jump on the crowd but our vendors need time to set up and get ready. And we understand it can be frustrating to go around the block but we have not had any injuries (only very close calls) and we want to keep it that way!
