8/27/2013 5:44:00 PM Farmers Market: Final Wednesday market
Labor Day....already?! Yes, and with the holiday comes the inevitable changes in the market: fewer vendors as crops run their course and school age helpers head back to the classrooms, more squash, gourds and pumpkins. Remember that smaller can be beautiful, too. More opportunities to talk directly to farmers, more leisure to pick out just the right box of peaches or ears of corn, and to enjoy the pleasure of a warm autumn day. This week will be our last Wednesday, from here on out it is Saturdays only. We'll be prepping for winter market as we move off the street in mid-October.
This week at our "Guest of the Market" tent you will have a chance to meet our newest Harbor Springs chef, Victoria, who will be on hand to tell you all about the restaurant she and her husband are opening in the old Pooter Olooms building. You can find out the name, survey the menu and grab some tastes of the good stuff to come. She'll be with us on Wednesday, Aug. 28.
And we will be participating in the weeklong "Fall into Harbor" event that will be showcasing the glass pumpkins made by Harry Boyer and displayed by Three Pines Studio as part of the Great Glass Pumpkin Patch. The glass pumpkins are truly fantastic and draw visitors from around the country. There will be lots of events around town during that week, starting with the Taste of Harbor on Sept. 21 and ending with a "mini-Chopped" event at the market on Saturday. Plans are in the works and we hope you will take advantage of another amazing round of Harbor activities.
And just in case you haven't heard..."We're #5!". Harbor Springs was named as one of the five favorite farmers' markets in Northern Michigan by the viewers of Channel 9 and 10 News. We are both excited and proud ~ we love our customers!
