On the Bookshelf: The Year in Review

By Katie Capaldi, Between the Covers

And so we find ourselves at the close of another year. As it goes in the universe of books, 2013 saw surprises in awards ceremonies; marked the passing of some of our most beloved writers and illustrators; continued to pit independent, bricks-and-mortar stores against the big guys; and ushered in some exciting and promising new voices in the publishing realm.

As a brief recap of the year in the life of Between the Covers, you will find here, a list of our top 20 bestsellers for the year, as well as the ten more that have quickly gained momentum in just the past several weeks. These lists may not echo the trends of the many national bestseller lists, but I think it does a far better job of reflecting a slice of the reading population here in Northern Michigan.

Wishing all of our customers, supporters, and Harbor Light readers from afar, health and happiness in the New Year.
